RPGs
« on: July 25, 2010, 12:01:48 AM »
Ok, to some of the veterans out there, other than D&D, what are some of the Iconic Role Playing Games that are out there? I am talking good games, rulesets etc. I was also thinking more along the lines of present time, or futuristic, but I guess fantasy as well.

Two I have run into/heard about/got killed in recently are

Call of Cthulu - It was set 1870s yes? A bit more recent than fantasy style anyway. Very brutal game - reasonable rules, although I wasn't particulary happy with some of the skills and bits and pieces, they needed to change a few in my opinion. Brutal however... absolutely brutal... A lot of fun.

Mage/Vampire/Werewolf(?) - Steve was telling me about this, can I have some details about it?

Any others worth note!?!?

Savage Worlds.

GURPS.

Shadowrun.

Pathfinder (which is basically just an updated D&D 3.5).

Shadowrun is one of my all-time favourites...  A Blend of Sci-Fi and Fantasy with a Chunk of Cyberpunk...

Pros and cons and a brief speel about each game?
Or should I just raid wikipedia?
I was after more of what you guys would suggest than just a list.

Well I look at wikipedia, then I start to read about said games. I am looking at doing a modern/future rpg. I'm really sick of the fantasy setting and dnd in general.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_role-playing_games_by_genre

There are alot. I'm quite interested in these ones

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Inside_%28game%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Fears
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savage_Worlds

I'm most interested in Sorcerer and Little Fears.

AE Bounty...  :D

But its not an RPG is it. Although, from what I have heard, I am playing this, once I have scraped my AE WWII stuff together.

Both Sorcery and Little Fears sound really interesting.

I'd be happy to run a Sorcery or Little Fears game if a few of us can get together to play one day.

I'm too lazy to edit my previous post.

But, did you give the Wiki list a look? Theres some really interesting stuff there. It's the best place I have looked thus far. But I am sure if you scope out some rpg websites they may have a community rating thing for some systems.

Yeah, thanks. I had already looked at lists of games, but I was after opinions and suggestions. Scouring the lists didn't sound like the most interesting thing to do - reading into each and every one of them and then tracking down information and stuff.
Mind you, you have given a nice few of them.

Savage Worlds.

GURPS.

Shadowrun.

Pathfinder (which is basically just an updated D&D 3.5).

GURPS was supposed to be the original system for the fallout games, until it was replaced by SPECIAL.

shadowrun looks kinda fun. although one part of the explanation kinda made me laugh abit.

In the backstory of the game, magic and mythological beings returned to the world in 2011. Additionally, some humans changed into orks, trolls, elves, dwarves and even more exotic creatures

dum de dum "POP" ahh crap now im an ork. :D

it kinda makes me think of Arcanum mixed with Deus Ex.
