Painting Competition
« on: August 14, 2010, 11:44:15 AM »
time for a new painting comp yay!!!11! entry for comp is only available on the september meet and ends on the october meet

we're gunna do things a bit differently this time

firstly: everyone paints the same (or similar) mini, it will be one of the newer gretchin from GW, already assembled, based and undercoated. when you pay the entry fee, you will randomly choose one to paint, you can, of course, trade with a fellow combatant if you wish

secondly: if there is enough interest there will be 2 categories- l33ts and noobs, with minimum entries for each one. if minimum isnt reached your entry fee will be refunded on day of entry

l33ts is for over 18s- min entry 6- entry cost $5
n00bsis for under 18s- min entry 3- entry cost FREE

thirdly: because we're all suckers for punishment a second competition will be running at the same time!!!!@! this one has only one category open and entry is open to all and can be whatever you want to paint with a maximum base size of 60x60mm

open is for everyone- min entry 5- entry cost $5

all categories will be run via peer voting and any forum/club members can enter

enter/pay for your category at the september 4th meeting

voting/prizes will be at the october 2nd meeting

prizes are yet to be determined (as they will depend on number of entries), but will included a trophy :D

plz feel free to post your interest and/or questions

sneak peak: november 6th meet: 2 hour speed painting comp :D

Own paints, brushes? Or will they be supplied?

Let me get this straight. Am I right in thinking for the 'Grot van Gogh' comp, that we are given the mini randomly on the meet and then have until the next meet to paint it? Or do we paint it on the september meet and is on virtual display until the next meet?

for the grot van gogh comp, you get a grot and have a month to paint it

yes you can paint whatever you want for the open comp, single figure, diorama, whatever as long as the base is maximum 60x60mm

details for the speed painting comp will be unvieled at a later date

Nevermind. I thought it was an 'at-the-club' thing rather than a 'you-have-a-month' thing...

I am so doing both. How big is 60mm? Actually scratch that question... Actually... I can. I'll realise how big it is later.

Basing can be good and bad. If you go too over the top you can ruin the mini due to it distracting too much, same is if you do a really crud job you could ruin it.

Coolmini or not have some good tutes on making bases. I tend to keep mine simple. Failing that just buy some resin bases, all the work is done lol.
