GW to restrict foreign sales in new trade account terms
« on: May 17, 2011, 10:30:10 AM »
Maelstrom have confirmed it. You can read it here. From June onwards you will not be able to purchase GW stuff from overseas. This will mean Australian's will have to buy locally.

Also, another GW price hike will be on it's way on May 28th. It's expected for US/Canada (can confirm it through distributors of mine) so it's without a doubt going to happen for Aus/NZ people.

TGN have a good discussion going on.

Price hike because they have changed from metal to resin.........
Resin is cheaper to buy, work with and generally has more flaws then metals. Oh yeah!

It's not only the new resins, it's because they have a yearly price hike.

What flaws does resin have over metal? They're both about the same imo.

Actually I have it on good authority (from Mantic) that plastics only start to pay off and be worthwhile if done in large volumes. Metal is much cheaper for small volume stuff.

But anyway, GW wont be getting any more custom from me, I'll buy stuff from independent retailers or second hand.

Apparently the Citadel Fine Cast range will be in resin (or a resin-hybrid), so about $10 AUS is knocked off the price of all kits that were previously metal. However, I believe this is before the scheduled price-hike.
Things could get ugly, but I'm hoping for the best.

The resin kits are more expensive than the metal kits. I've seen the prices.

Seems like those idiots definitely just want to destroy their customer base. i don't think i'll ever be finishing my dark elves now(i was going to buy mainly metal units next :() .

just going to be to much strain on the wallet, i'll just grab a grandmaster and maybe a transport for the Knights at some point since the army needs mobility, but that's probably the last business they'll be seeing from me.

Moar money for warmahordes and a new gaming pc! :D

Maelstrom has a 'goodbye GW' sale on at the moment... 18% off the UK RRP of stuff.  So if you really want to encourage GW to keep doing this kinda stuff, now's the time!

The uproar over these actions has been pretty big, with GW UK and Au being bombarded with mail/e-mails, angry gamers at their stores and a bucketload of gamers quitting GW, and even TO's canceling their warhams tournaments in favour of WM/H, infinity, malifaux or some other system.

Heck I'm on the verge of goodbuy, will be selling a quantity of my armies pretty soon methinks. I will be keeping my chaos and a few other 40k armies, and most of my fantasy as I seriously love the game but a big clearout is coming. If there was another large scale game out I would consider giving it a serious shot depending on price and coolness of the minis.

As for the new resin, the price increase is in the realm of 5-25%.......

Kings of war for fantasy - has free rules
Flames of war for ww2
and there is a plethora of rules for historicals (and fantasy, etc too)

Personally if I were to play a large army game I would go to a smaller scale. 6-15mm is good for those games.

But will they voice their opinion were it matters? With their wallets.

No good saying you'll never support GW or don't like their practice if you keep buying their stuff.

With large combat game, I meant future, as I will keep playing fantasy as I love the game. Will not be quitting cold turkey, but easing off a little and browsing around. I have after all, been a complete fan boi for the past 11 or so years...

FoW may get a larger look ;p

As for people voting with their wallets, some are, most will just get around the embargo. As for the e-mail/letter spam, GW wont care at all.

And as for alternate game systems, down here we are pretty limited in opponents and their game systems, and their is not much at all that is similar to 40k - ie, 28mm (slash heroic) models, big games that feel a lot more important and scaled up then the plethora of skirmish games.

it saddens me that they had to pull this crap just as i got a bit of interest in playing 40k again. even though i buy from an independent store, i still don't exactly want to feed the GW monster. i wonder if once they lose 70% of their customer base they'll come to realise how much they've screwed up. and how do they expect new players to come in when they raise prices at an average of at least once a year?

oh and fooble, if you're getting rid of stuff in the future let me know about potential transport vehicles i could use for my GK, and rough prices for them, still lacking mobility in my force, and i'm not going to buy from GW unless they wisen their act up(fat chance).

although when all is said and done i won't be giving up on playing, just buying.

Edit: aside from the stuff i ordered a few weeks back or whenever it was.
