Local Commission Painter
« on: April 08, 2012, 03:43:02 PM »

Howdy all

Going back quite a while there were a couple of members who were looking around to see if there was any interest in selling their services as a painter.
Are any of you still hanging around?

There are a plethora of commission painters around that can paint to godlike standards with various levels of cost and established reputations but I thought I'd try local first; more activity in the club and, again going back some time, I heard woes of some members being unemployed and knowing how that feels, any dosh is good dosh.

As of the moment I am looking at getting my Dark Eldar done as I absolutely adore their codex and mostly don't play with 'em now due to lack of painted models. I am confident that I will offer a steady stream of work, not only with my DE but by needing this or that unit done up prior to a tourney, and of course I have many, many armies and I buy, sell and trade on a weekly basis.

I am looking for quality above tabletop standard level of painting - not GD entries or even 'best painted' at events, but something which both I and the painter can be proud of. Anything of higher quality will be discussed with the painter - such as hero or showcase models.

A little about me:
Firstly, anything that has been painted by the commission painter will be told as such. I will NOT under any circumstances take credit for someone else's work. If someone asks/compliments the army then I will say that I did not paint it and then plug who did, regardless of whether or not it rules me out of possible prizes. Should I win a painting prize at a tourney, unless a prior arrangement is made the prize, just like the army is mine but any and all praise (and hopefully work) goes to the painter. While that sounds fairly logical there are those who would rather claim the work as their own and I detest that sort of behaviour.
I have a number of commission armies already, and have taken them to tournaments before with this exact mindset.

I like giving the painter as much free reign and creative control as possible, as I believe they enjoy it more, and as such the product is of higher quality if they can implement a lot of their own ideas into their work. Often I have an idea that I wish to portray and/or a vague idea of which colours I would like to see but I like to really discuss the model and their plan, pool ideas and make something truly great!

Another skill set which I would like tot take advantage of is a mimic. I have a few commission armies and it is almost near impossible to add to them due to matching the extremely high quality of painting.

As of right now work I would like to get done/started on:

:My Dark Eldar army
:A Forge World Squiggoth to be done as a cooler fantasy Arach spider for O&G
Ideally with a magnet for the 'kannon' so it could still be used for 40k
:A LoTR War Mammuk to be done as a fantasy O&G Arach spider stand in. It is such a useful model for so many armies and things, that I would like anything that 100% defines it as O&G to be removable - most likely the crew will need magnets to the howdah and bingo!
Both the big beasties will be snow themed to match my snow Orcs
Also have ...well crap everywhere. Stuff to be mimic'd for my Beastmen, O&G, WoC, lots for HE, an entire huge TK army just sitting on my floor looking rather sad, new 40k Chaos codex in the works ect.

And one final note (for the moment): I am not in the business of ripping anyone off, nor am I a fan of being ripped off myself. I have a lot of experience and a fair understanding about trading this sort of stuff so no silly offers please. In turn I have numerous references from people who have dealt with me over the years ranging in exchanges from $20 to up to $1000.
Also with any valuable commission work I intend for their to be some sort of written contract/proof (even if only on a scrap of paper!) for everyone involved. I'm not completely paranoid, but it is a crazy world.

Well that's enough babbling, though rambling and terrible jokes are part of the parcel that is me.

In the interest of my own sanity, I must declare that I cannot paint an entire army, but I would be more than happy to paint a centrepiece model or two for you (I'll admit, I kinda dribbled when you mentioned 'Mumakil') I am too far out of practise and really need to get back into painting miniatures rather than just canvases XD

I am sure you are aware of my capabilities and ponderous tendencies (I finally have a fully painted army now! I know, right?) I'll be at the next club meet (hopefully with some stuff on show!)

The only hesitation I have is that I have to put uni work as a priority. Which, on reflection, probably just means I'll spend far more time on miniatures by way of procrastination ;)

hmm, i'd really love to help with stuff like this if i weren't so damned bad at getting my own stuff painted. plus, even if theres money involved, if i'm not inspired to paint, nothing gets done.

also, i have reason to believe my painting skills have probably atrophied a smidgen over the last 5 or so months it's been since i've actually done any painting. i really want to get into airbrushing sometime, so i kinda ended up leaving a bunch of models unpainted in the hopes of obtaining the equipment needed for doing so and now it's ended up being on my to do list for a while.

i would still, however, have no problems taking a look at helping you out once i get back "in the groove" so to speak. i probably wouldn't be the go-to guy for centerpiece stuff though. not until i markedly improve anyways.

i will take a look at all of my unpainted stuff sometime in the near future and start painting some of my dark elf mooks or something to get back into practice.  i just remembered how purely badass some of my unpainted stuff looks, and now i kind of want to put some work into them, but not until i know that i wont screw them up.

anyways, this is probably  far too long-winded and non-specific a rant to get across my ultimate point, so i'll just say i'd love to help, but i don't feel confident at this moment in time that i would be able to provide a quality service.
I'm sorry.
It doesn't matter how many or how good you are.
There are too many things I have yet to know about this world to leave it today.
So, regrettably, today it is your turn to die.

yo, i know i havent been around for a while but now that ive settled into tafe i,m gunna try make it to the club more.

you knom my work, washed orks, white necrons and black skorne. at present i am painting everyones (ben, kent, owen) firestorm armada fleets, fingers crossed they'll be done before tafe starts up again.

my current painting style aims at above average tabletop.

i charge the retail cost of the mini. if 10 trooopers cost $50 from GW, thats how much to paint them. BUT i am willing to offer discounts for bulk lots and i will require some colour imput from you. also prefer that you have assembled the minis.

i will PM you my phone number as im not online much anymore, so call me if you want to organise this before the next club meet.

my directorate fleet has a green gradient that looks cool, and the plan for my sorylian fleet is purple primary with green bands
